Public speaking. How do you feel about it? If you’re like most people (including authors), this is one item which won’t be found on your “bucket list.” In fact, the idea of speaking in front of an audience often gets tossed into the same bucket with activities such as singing karaoke and jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. “No thanks. I’m good.”
However, for me, speaking to groups seems like a natural extension of my writing as an author and former career as a teacher. Public speaking creates additional opportunities for making a positive difference in the lives of others.
Whenever someone introduces me at a public speaking event, it is because they believe I have something of value to share. In turn, I believe it then becomes my responsibility to deliver. This mindset is why I always speak from both my brain and my heart. It is the best way I know to “bring the love” to every audience. Whether those in attendance are educators at a school, employees in a corporate conference room, or women at a charity or social event, I customize my messaging just for them.
Every group has its own focus and bottom line on what is most important. Knowing this means I must address the questions based on those specific needs and goals. Yet, for me, one thing remains the same. “Love is always the answer.” LIfe experience has proven and taught me well. There are many ways to explain and embrace the love answer so it reaches people where they are.
Granted, the times and settings of my speaking events change. Regardless, I hope to leave every audience member wtih teachings and tools to help them discover more love, more thriving, and enjoy more fulfilling lives.
